Day two of our short road-trip brought us to the town of Modena, for a proper introduction to the Emilia-Romagna region - the heart of Italian food as most people know it. To our surprise, all of downtown Modena was closed for a street market with various stalls selling food, sweets and trinkets, as well as random household things as per most markets anywhere in the world.
So many tempting cookies.
We visited the Duomo, built in the 1100’s and strikingly beautiful in different ways to some of the other churches we’ve visited recently.
We then headed to the central market, Mercato Albinelli, for a light (heavy) snack featuring pasta, more pasta, sandwiches, calzone and arancini. Oh. And some pasty to help it all go down.
And to wrap it all up. Of course, gelato from Bloom.
It was the time to hit the road to drive to our overnight stay in Bologna, but not before a quick visit to a ceramic store… we resisted buying these guys… a photo will have to suffice.
