Surabaya & Mount Bromo | December 2022

The next stop on our end-of-year tour was Surabaya, where we headed to meet some of the family and head off for a couple of nights at Mt Bromo (one of the most active volcano's in the world!)

We headed out for the 3 hour drive up to Bromo, and stayed at the Plataran Bromo, a resort overlooking the volcanic and mountainous region.  The drive down was quite precarious as there had been heavy storms and a few mudslide's on the road (in at least one spot there was barely a road!)

The plan for the next day was to see the sunset, but overnight storms had made the roads even more trecherous, so instead we waited until a bit later in the day before jumping in our jeep (well land cruisers actually), and headed up to the crater at the top of Mt Bromo (and the mini-peak within the crater).

The girls and dad climbed to the very edge of the open mouth of the volcano and looked down inside.  The climb was quite tiring, so the girls grabbed a pony each to get back to the jeeps!  Unfortunately for dad (who didn't know you should stand near the rear of a pony) he got kicked in the thigh (ouch!)

Even in the land cruisers the road was very rough, wet and muddy.  At times the road was knee deep in mud.
