From Interlaken we headed on a short ~2 hour journey to Brig, a small town on the other side of the moutain range to the south of Interlaken, and the place we'll join the Glacier Express (which is apparently one of THE scenic train routes. It was supposed to start in Zermatt, where you can witness Matterhorn (or as most people would recognise it, the Toblerone mountain), but we left the bookings too late and so Brig became much more achievable.
Brig (we didn't know this when we booked) is quite an old town (some 800 years old), with some interesting areas dating back to those times, including an old town, very old timber buildings, some interesting churches, some laneways (with arches), and a palace owned by one of the worlds earlies collectors, Kaspar Stockalper. We think our hotel might be named in honour of Kaspar, as we stayed in the Hotel Stockperhof, which was a nice little hotel with a great view over the town square.
In our lazy afternoon in Brig (as we're getting the Glacier Express the following morning) we wondered around...once again found a Beaver - this time as the mascot for a hotel, found a rather somber catacomb, and generally stretched our tired, sore legs from yesterdays activities.
