Beaver's 95th | New York - Part 2

So our passion for walking till our feet are crying out in pain continued well into our second and third full days in the city that never sleeps...

We started our second day with a visit to Chelsea Markets, including our first ride on the NY subway, with the aim of getting a nice breakfast, and visiting another insta-find, this time for Keira.

First stop was Doughnuttery...which was famed for its mini doughnuts...

Another time it was definitely worth the trip... Keira was super pleased so she quickly ate 6... while the rest of us had a nice breakfast and did a little shopping.

We also stumbled upon a small selection of chocolates which Claire just had to try.

We then headed downtown a little further to explore firstly Wall Street, the World Trade Centre and surrounds.

We spent some time in and around the WTC, including the 9/11 memorial.  We explained a little more about what happened all that time ago, and were lucky enough to see many families and friends of the NYFD, who were participating in a fun run on the day.  It was truly humbling to see the many first responders affected on the day.

We continued our infatuation with small police and fire department vehicles...

We then headed to the Staton Island Ferry, to get out and get a good view of the Statue of Liberty...

After enjoying the amazing views and beautiful (though hot) weather, we wondered around Wall Street and stumbled across Beaver Street (and you can't ignore the opportunity when it arises!).

And then onto some shopping at Century 21.

Keira's reaction was a little different to mum and Claire's!

Lastly, to wind up the day, we swung by a cup cake store which was too good to pass, and picked up some mini cupcakes to eat back at the hotel.

This morning started with the plan of doing a whole lot less walking than we had in previous days... but alas it didn't quite work out that way, and we ended up doing almost as much as we've now come to expect as inevitable.

After a brisk walk down to Grand Central for some breakfast bagels (via Blue Bottle Cafe in the park for a real coffee), we headed downtown towards the Brooklyn Bridge.

We then did the obligatory crossing of the Brooklyn Bridge, even though it was over 30 degrees and not a single cloud in the sky (that is, it was really hot for walking across a bridge!)

Another mini po-po...

Upon reaching the other side...we rushed to Grimaldi's for pizza, and more importantly ice-cold soda's...

Followed by ice creams from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory (which we missed out on last time we were in NYC.

And then before heading back uptown, we recreated one of our previous family photos...

The rest of the day was a mission for the girls... first stop was intended to be the famous cup-cake vending machine (which the girls had seen on 'We Bare Bears'... We got a little distracted with some shopping, and another 30 minutes of walking, some public art and a free photo booth at Uniqlo...

Eventually got there, to much delight from the girls.

Exhausted, but undeterred we marched onto the next of the girls targets... the M&M World super-store! Here you are overwhelmed by the smell of m&m's as you walk in the door.  We did however walk out with a big pile of customised m&m's, which every we admit is pretty cool!

Dinner was next, and it was finally mum's turn... So we headed over to Ellen's Stardust Diner, where the waitstaff perform throughout dinner with a range of broadway and popular songs...  It was a good experience (though most of the songs were unknown to the girls... Claire did come out saying she had to tell her friends about it).

Thinking that was it for the night, we headed (walked) back to the hotel again... but got a little sidetracked by a store selling cute bears... With plenty of photo opportunities, even though the girls were shattered from a big day!

To relax, the girls have laid in bed watching tv shows till 11pm, excited by the idea of sleeping in tomorrow...before we pack in as much as we can on our last day in nyc...
