The girls have been eagerly awaiting the day, with dreams of the fun they were going to have making snow-men, throwing snowballs, and making snow angels...mostly formed from watching too many american movies featuring snow...
Alas, they were in for a bit of a shock! After getting their gear on, and finally getting out of the car, the cold winds hit them...and they realised it wasn't quite like the movies...
That said, it was particularly windy when we arrived, to the point where we had to keep a hold of Keira so she woudn't get blown away...
Here's the three girls all ready to go... (to give you an idea of the hassle in getting the kids etc ready for the snow, when mummy first saw this photo upon getting home, she looked to daddy and asked 'who's that girl you were taking photos with...where was that'... not realising that's what she'd looked like in the snow gear!!!
So we headed to the toboggan fields, with the hope of getting the girls to enjoy it, but with the blasting wind, ice and all, the girls really weren't enjoying the experience at all. Keira didn't mind sitting in the inflatable sled we got her, but if it moved, she wasn't so happy!
So we spent some time sheltered in the cafe (together with what seemed like twice as many people as the building was designed to hold!) When the weather eased a little (at least we thought it had) we headed back out to try and make the most of the day... 10 minutes out, and it was still a little windy, so daddy carried Keira to shield her from the wind and ice... And, she surprised us all by falling asleep in my arms...with cold wind blasting us...
So we headed back to the cafe, where mummy enjoyed a hot coffee (though after the 2nd hour of enjoying the hot coffee, I'm not sure she was still enjoying it) while Keira slept peacefully like a warm marshmallow...
Here's Claire explaining her thoughts on the snow...
As the area we were in was a toboggan free zone, Claire had to make do by sliding down on her bottom (and later, on her belly - head first!)
Uncle Dan made a wonderful snowman...and upon meeting the snowman, Claire immediately wanted to eat its nose....
After all the fun in the snow, we headed back to Canberra for another night with Uncle Dan. The following morning (after pancakes) we took the girls to Questacon (using them as an excuse to allow Dan to visit his favourite place)...
The girls have really taken to Dan...here's Claire in all her flirty-ness...
A day out with the girls seems to always involve a snack..doesn't matter how much they've eaten!
It was still very windy as we left, and the girls were flying around the park...
So at the end of the trip, Claire is counting down to our next trip to the snow... while Keira is a little hesitant, insisting 'no more big wind!'...
