The next stop on our journey through Europe was Amsterdam, Netherlands. The last time Mum and Dad was here was back in January 2007, but sadly the photos seem to have been deleted by Blogger (seems like I'll have some re-posting required to get the blog back up to standard! What I can say is we (dad) looks a lot younger...and Amsterdam was relatively quiet... Not like this time around where the place is packed full of people!
We had a very short time in Amsterdam, arriving late afternoon on Friday, and flying out again early Monday morning, but it gave us enough time to explore the city, try all the key must-try dishes, stroopwafel, poffertjes, kroket, bitterballen, pancakes, frites, haring and appeltaart amongst other things!
First stop on the food adventures was for a instagram-famous stroopwafel... With a long wait, and a ridiculous price, it ws a bit much... we tried two other stroopwafels over the weekend which combined were still less than half than the first one!
We then spent the evening exploring the city... heading for the next stop...
Poffertjes.
And then, immediately onto Kroket and Bitterballen!
All in - quite a feast for an evening walking around the city.
Saturday morning we headed out to Albert Cuyp Markt for some more food! First stop was some fried fish and Haring for dad (raw fish)..
Followed quickly by poffertjes and stroopwafel again.
Saturday night, after endless walking through the mystical canals, too many Cannabis stores and eating all day, we headed out for a traditional dutch dinner of meatballs, beef stew and bitterballen (again).
Sunday morning we woke up a bit late, and headed out for dutch pancakes for breakfast...
Stopped by an antique photo booth...
And then partook in the mandatory cruise around the canals... it was a cheese and wine cruise, and dad may have eaten his weight in cheese!
All up, we loved Amsterdam and could happily explore the streets some more. The crowds in the evening were quite intense, and the bikes rushing in all directions does make the place a little crazy.
And lastly, some art by Claire...
Next stop, Prague, Czech Republic.
